I don’t know much about it tbh. My dad was from Libya and it’s a fairly common arabic surname. 

Someone once told me its that Shamama is a kind of melon (perhaps this kind?!)

Shamama is some kind of middle-eastern perfume oil. I’ve bought a couple bottles off eBay and it smells shockingly rancid: imagine a dumpster behind an Indian restaurant on a really hot day. 

Shamama was the name of one of these giant Buddhist statues in Afghanistan that were destroyed by the Taliban in 2008. 

Someone once told me it means “Sun” in hebrew.
